From 1959 to 1963, he was selected to attend the Preparatory School of China National Academy of the Fine Arts. Upon completion of the preparatory school program, he entered as a student into China National Academy of Fine Arts. He graduated in 1968 with high honors and was appointed Professor of Art in the academy's Oil Painting Department for the next 16 years.
Between 1968 and 1984, his works were shown 18 times at city, provincial,
and national
exhibitions.
More than 40 of his paintings have been published in national art periodicals,
newspapers, and magazines. Five of his oil paintings were collected
by the National Historic Museums in China. In 1983, he completed
a mural eight feet tall and 21 feet long in the dining room of the Shanghai
Hilton Hotel.
In 1984, he came to the University of Montana as a visiting art professor
to introduce Chinese art and culture to American students and fellow artists.
His watercolor, "Indian Lady," got an Award of Excellence at Montana Interpretations
VII. His oil painting, "Eastern Venice--Dawn in Shuzhou," was shown
in the 67th National Exhibition organized by the Springfield Art League
in 1986. His watercolors, "Dusk in Fall" and "Timely Snow," were
shown in Hamburg, Germany as Art of American Campus in 1986. His
oil painting, "Wildflowers Below the Snowy Peak," was named as a Rotary
Winner in the 1992 Arts For the Parks. His oil paintings, "Ranch
Road of Winter" and "Frost by the Fence," received the Best of Show and
second place awards in the 1993 Montana Interpretations Juried Art Exhibition.
Huang is a member of Oil Painters of America and his paintings were selected
by Sotheby's and Christie's Oil Painting Auctions. He has also participated
in many regional, national, and international exhibitions including the
China Art Expo, Great American Art Show, ArtExpo New York, and the C.M.
Russell Art Auction.
